As a leading commercial contractor in southwest
Florida,
Professional Building
Systems is known for outstanding
customer satisfaction.
“Over
20 years, our growth has been based on strong
relationships and references from satisfied
customers,” says Russell Budd, president of
Professional Building Systems. Staying
competitive while maintaining such high levels
of service requires great business tools,
particularly with regard to their PCs and
network.
“Everything we do is dependent on technology,”
explains Budd. “Accounting, finance, estimating,
scheduling, and project management.” But in a
competitive and cyclical business like
construction, efficiency is also key to success.
“We need great IT capabilities, but we need to
deploy capital efficiently and minimize our
overhead,” says Budd.
“That’s why we’re a customer of INFINETWORK.”

Can Your Business Survive a Disaster?
Gartner, Incorporated, the world’s leading
information technology research and advisory company did an extensive study only to
prove. . .
"50% of all small and midsize businesses will go
out
of business within three years if they can’t
get back their data
in 24 hours."
Visualize yourself being able to conduct business
from any location remotely using a single Internet
connection and INFIGUARD’s Business Continuity
Solution. . .
What good is a tape backup of your data, when you don’t have copies of your computer
programs, and you have no way to run them?
Let’s
face the facts; a business disaster can be comprised
of many factors including sudden server failure,
viruses, theft, disgruntled employee, and mother
nature’s unpredictability.
Protect
your business investment by using a proven method
that previously was only available to Fortune 500
companies, at a price within most small business’
reach.

Do e-mail filters work?
Even though it
is estimated that 90 billion spam emails are sent
worldwide every day, the use of spam filters is still
questioned.
The term spam
filter is also known as anti-spam software. This piece
service (hardware, software, or both) analyzes your
incoming email and uses a series of rules to decide
whether the email you are receiving is legitimate or
not. Consequently, the answer to the question of whether
spam filters work or not is yes. How good they work
depends on the spam filter implemented. Some spam
filters work better than others.
A decent spam
filter will block about 95% of spam through filtering
‘buzz’ words referring to adult content, medical
supplies, weight loss supplements, etc. Additionally,
filtering uses rules based on a “blacklist”, font size,
font color, block skin colored images, etc.

Practical Productivity –
Being Productive Anywhere!
By Jane Cage, HTS COO
I've
always worked beyond normal business hours. Twenty years ago
that meant going back to the office after dinner if I needed
access to files that were on our network. In those early days, there
was no internet, no connection to the office and having a
computer at home was a luxury that few people could afford –
including me.
Fast forward –
it's Sunday night, I'm sitting in the den. There is an HD
movie on TV. I've just gotten a cup of coffee, let the dog
in, and if my timing is right, the accounts receivable batch
that I've started posting will have just finished. I can
look at my network drive for the excel spreadsheet that I
need and then send a report to my printer at work so that
it's there when I get to work in the morning. And to think
I'm doing everything from my laptop. Maybe I don't need to
go to the office after all . . . well, not really.

Enjoy the
Benefits of Remote Network Monitoring
Out Of Sight, Out Of Mind --
Enjoy the Benefits of Remote Network Monitoring Without The IT
Burden
Your network or application is down and you need it corrected
quickly or your business suffers through loss of productivity,
revenue or image. With managed services from
INFINETWORK corrective action is already underway to
get you up and running again.
Today’s remote network monitoring applications — such as
Cisco Works, HP OpenView, Ipswitch and Netarx — can help us
generate valuable information about your network health and
performance. This data, pulled from firewall and VPN logs, helps
our network administrators quickly determine which of your
network components are overburdened, underutilized or at risk.
And by hiring out this service, you can gain all the
information you need to make critical decisions, without placing
an additional burden on your busy IT personnel. If you are an SMB
with numerous PCs, servers and a Web site — but a small IT staff
— remote network monitoring may prove to be an ideal solution.

Tech Tip
Microsoft deliberately disabled access to
older files, including many generated by its own products.
Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Office 2003,
blocks old file formats for security purposes. Some older file formats,
including some from Microsoft, are insecure and do not satisfy new
attack vectors that hackers can use to execute malicious code. The
decision to block the formats is strictly to protect your machine from
being compromised.
Office 2003 SP3 was released in September,
and questions about file access error messages began appearing almost
immediately on Microsoft's support forums.
Among the blocked files are older Microsoft
Word, Excel and PowerPoint formats, as well as older formats used by
Lotus 1-2-3 and Corel Corp.'s Quattro Pro -- a pair of ancient and aging
spreadsheets -- and Corel Draw, an illustration program. Word 2003 with
SP3, in fact, blocks a staggering 24 former formats, according to
Microsoft, including the default word processing file format for Office
2004 for Mac, the currently available edition of Microsoft's application
suite for Mac OS X.
INFINETWORK’s Managed Services scans
and filters all Microsoft updates until they are tested and approved by
our engineering team. Avoid costly and unnecessary down time caused from
allowing Microsoft to choose the Windows Updates it thinks your computer
network needs. Enjoy the piece of mind knowing professionals are
watching over the computer system that runs your business.
